I am such a routine-oriented person. Like, maybe to a fault. However, in this instance, no fault here, because I’m a routine snacker. And ain’t nothing wrong with snacks.

When I was in college, I had pretty much the same lunches/snacks everyday, and they always made their way into my mouth about every two hours. Seriously… I swear my stomach has an alarm clock.

Some days I was on campus all day, so you better believe I had a bag full of food, and that bag almost always contained a Quest bar. At the time, I wasn’t able to consume gluten (I’d stopped consuming it for a year due to digestive issues), and the Quest bars were the only protein bars back then that were gluten-free.

However, they were taking a hit to my wallet, so I ended up just making my own! And voila – these bad boys were born.

Today I’m doing my first recipe revamp here on TBB – this recipe is originally from October 2013 *woah*… check out one of the original images below:

Homemade Quest Bars

Old photos, good recipe. I barely changed anything, and they were just as good as I remember! But let’s just say my recipe writing has gotten a tad bit better (aka a lot).

Nowadays, my snack game is still strong. As in, I borderline fear that a famine might break out while I’m traveling, so I bring a carry on bag while I travel filled entirely with snacks.

Homemade Quest Bars
Prep time:
Cook time:
Total time:
Serves: 8 bars
Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup all natural nut butter (I used peanut butter. Use what you have.)
  • 1/2 cup oat flour
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 2 scoops of vanilla protein powder
  • 2 sheets of wax or parchment paper
Instructions
  1. Add all ingredients into a large mixing bowl.
  2. Stir ingredients together with a spoon until well-combined and a dough forms. You might need to use your hands to make sure it’s all combined.
  3. Put dough on top of wax/parchment paper and use hands to flatten out.
  4. Using a knife, cut out eight bars.
  5. Using your other piece of wax/parchment paper, cut out eight pieces similar to the shape of the bars.
  6. Place each bar atop a matching paper and place in a large Tupperware. Place in the refrigerator for about an hour
Notes
For a firm texture similar to Quest bars, leave in refrigerator for at least 24 hours.

I am SUCH a routine girl too, especially with food haha! Homemade protein bars are the best!! Love the simplicity of this recipe. I will definitely be making these to bring to work over the next few days, because I haven’t eaten Quest bars in like 6 months, they just didn’t agree with me anymore.

I LOVE making homemade quest bars to save money! I use the fiber syrup to add the fiber questbars have in it though, but isn’t it so convenient to make it yourself?! yumyumyum!

I love looking back at my old photos – makes me so happy to see that I’m actually getting better. It’s funny because at the time I take them I’m usually pumped but going back it’s like a whole different story.
    These bars look bomb!

I should definitely try these, because I’m not really a fan of the Quest Bars, because they’re actually a bit too sweet for me. Is that weird? The chewy factor is also something that I don’t quite love. But… they are still good!

They are pricy but I can’t help but resist quest bars! They are like candy to me! I’m allergic to PB, but I really want to try these out with AB or CB! I may even try to recreate one of their flavors! I love raspberry cheesecake, s’more and chocolate mint!!

Such a fun post! Love repurposing old great content!

I really want to try these, but my protein powder isn’t very vanilla-y. Do you think adding some vanilla extract would throw off the texture too much?

These look so easy! Do they really taste like the Quest bars? I can’t wait to give these a try! I love the idea of making my own protein bars and not having to worry about any additives.

Maybe I’m not looking in the right place, but I don’t see nutritional facts for these. I’d love to know what they are before I try these. Thanks!

    Hello Christina,
my protein powder didn’t come with a spoon or anything. Can you tell me how much two scoops would be?

    Thanks a lot!

The only way I can get my husband to eat breakfast is if he eats a bar. Luckily he LOVES bars. I hate all the plastic packaging that they come in, however, so we needed to find a homemade substitute. And these bars are perfect! So easy to make, tasty, and only a little wax paper to throw away! We’ve started adding some ground up mixed nuts and it’s really put them over the top. Thanks for the recipe!

Love this quick, easy, sugar-free recipe. I cut the honey back to about 1/4 cup and only used 1 scoop (Garden of Life) vanilla protein powder. I also added a dash of cinnamon. Yum! Thank you!
