If you’re alive and active on the internet in the 21st century, you may be familiar with the phenomenon that is putting anything you can think of into a waffle iron and hoping for the best. I’ve seen such experiments as waffle omelets, cinnamon rolls, brownies, cake batter and tater tots. We ‘millenials’ are so creative, am I right?

Saturday I was strolling the aisles of the grocery store, as a normal food blogger does on a perfectly sunny weekend afternoon, and I stopped in front of a section I normally walk past without so much as a glance: the dough section. I doubt that’s what it’s called, but that’s what I call it. You know, the section full of cookie dough, cinnamon roll dough, just general pre-made, packaged dough.

I looked at the cylindrical crescent roll dough package and thought… WAFFLES. Crescent waffles, that is. Of course, because that is a normal persons immediate thought, right?

This isn’t something that I would normally go for, don’t get me wrong. I’ve actually never used crescent roll dough for what it’s meant for… crescent rolls. But for the sake of food experimentation and quick, creative eats, one must sacrifice one’s routine.

They were so easy and fun to make, and were definitely a crowd-pleaser. If my dad approves, I chalk it up as a W. I made two batches. The first was drizzled with Nutella, sprinkled with cinnamon and tossed with banana slices. The second was a little more simple: honey and cashews. If you’re going with the latter, I would advise you chop the cashews for an easier bite.

Easy Crescent Waffles
Ingredients
  • 1 tube crescent roll dough
Instructions
  1. Pop open the tube and place the dough on a cutting board.
  2. Use your hands to break the dough in half.
  3. Roll each portion into a ball. Sprinkle flour on the dough and, using a rolling pin, roll them out to a circle.
  4. When the waffle iron is ready, place one half inside and close. Follow your waffle iron’s directions, flipping accordingly.
  5. Remove when ready and douse with toppings.

    Oh my goodness I am SO on this trend! I actually just made some zucchini fritters in my waffle iron. I love that thing! The next experiement Im eyeing is cinnamon rolls in the waffle iron. I mean – can you imagine????

      I literally bought cinnamon roll dough, too, when I did this! It’s in my fridge now haha! Zucchini fritters ooooh man that sounds so good. Trying that next!!

    What an interesting remix on the canned crescent roll. I would be interested in trying this with some fresh berries and a cream cheese frosting. Thanks for giving me some great ideas for future kitchen experiments.
