30-Minute Running Playlist

Music has always been a big part of my life.

When I was younger, my dad used to play guitar as we sang together. I’ll never forget one instance we were jamming out in the back yard, I sang while he played a Goo Goo Dolls song, and after we finished, all of our surrounding neighbors applauded us! That’s what happens when you live in the ‘burbs and everyones homes are on top of each other.

Nobody really knows this but I really, really love to sing. That does not, by any means, that I have an ounce of talent. It just means that I like to sing. You know, in the shower, in the car, opera-style across the house to annoy my family. The whole nine.

And since music has always been such a large part of my life, it also has a ginormous impact on my workouts. For instance, if I attend a spin class and the instructor plays bad music, my entire workout is ruined and I will be counting down the seconds until I get to leave. My running playlists have to be on-point, always, or else I will be miserable. I listen to music when I cook, when I travel, when I’m in the car. Don’t act like you don’t look out the window on road trips, listening to a sad song, imagining you’re in a movie or a music video. DON’T ACT LIKE YOU DON’T!

Additionally, on a more positive note, good songs have gotten me through bad runs. Literally, I have pushed through an entire mile when all I wanted to do was collapse because the music got me pumped.

My running music tends to change depending on my mood. Sometimes I like EDM music to get my heart-rate going. Other times I like alternative, and sometimes I like hip hop. But, the general consensus is EDM because I like a good beat-drop and crazy robot fart noises to keep me going. Totally motivational.

I, personally, have no idea how people run in silence. No clue. If you do, kudos to you, you are a better person than I. But if I run in silence, all I think about is how bad my knees hurt or how hungry I am for a fat banana with a giant scoop of peanut butter. How is one supposed to push past these thoughts!?

Okay, without further ado, here is a compilation of songs that will get you through a quick 30-minute run.

LOL at crazy robot fart noises! Good music during a workout is essential. My music crapped out on me during my last half marathon two years ago and it was torture. I literally haven’t run since – it was really traumatizing haha.

My dad used to play guitar when I was little too and I would dance while he played! I listen to mostly EDM when I run or anything super upbeat and inspirational. I love “Live Young Die Free ” & “Warpaint” by FLETCHER right now.

When training for the marathon, my coach preferred to talk instead of listen to music so I learned how to talk while running (it’s hard), but I prefer music either way to keep me going.

I’ll need to look those up I’ve never heard em! Is that a way to build your cardio? Talking while running? I can’t do that haha whenever I run with partners I’m like sorry but I’m putting my music in LOL #rude

I love to sing, too…but I am AWFUL.
Maybe I’m weird, but I usually like silent runs. Gives me time to just think and take in the world around me. This playlist sounds fun, though! I do prefer music if running indoors, though.

Hahahah omg I do the whole “look out the window- pretend you’re in a music video” all the time. Especially to Adele right now <3 haha. I like EDM and hip hop the best, basically anything with a good beat! When I run outside I like to start my run with no music and then listen to it at the end.

Back when I used to run (a.k.a. knee pain didn’t make me hate cardio) music was the only thing that could power me through that last mile. And by music, I mean ALL the Britney Spears songs. #sorrynotsorry
Also, my current workout plan has 30 mins of cardio 4 times a week starting in 2 weeks. Def gonna use the eff out of this then. Thanks for sharing 😀

Yes to all of these! 7 Nation Army is one of my college’s fight songs for offense so since I was in the band we played it all the time and now it pumps me up! Great addition to a running playlist :) Adding to my spotify!

Calvin Harris is my favorite artist to listen to while I’m running- his music just pumps me up! This playlist looks awesome with such a great variety of music. Happy running!
